What to do in an emergency

For emergency services (ambulance, police, fire), call 999

Do not delay if you feel an emergency situation has arisen. State your location as the address on the front page of this guidebook.

In case of a fire

Exit the property as quickly as possible Ensure that all persons are accounted for

Do not attempt to re-enter the building until a Fire Officer states that it is safe to do so.

Fire extinguishers are provided within the property but you should only attempt to extinguish a small fire if you believe it is safe to do so

In the case of a serious health issue

Dial 999 for any emergency. The ambulance service will take around 20 minutes to arrive at Roger Pot and then the emergency personnel will walk up the drive to you (Vans are too large for our track).

If the issue is a non-emergency health matter and you need medical help or advice fast you should call 111. They can also help if you are not sure what action to take.

Defibrilator - a defribrilator is positioned on the external wall of the village hall (bottom of the track turn left and it's on the left). Once you arrive at the installation, dial 999 and they will talk you through the process.

First Responders - Garsdale and Sedbergh are covered by a volunteer first responder service. To engage, simply call 999 (or 111 if unsure) and they will send first responders if it's considered suitable

Notify the property owners at the earliest convenient time of any emergency

Possible Risks

Roger Pot is safe but like any home there are things to be aware of...

River can be wild during periods of high rain fall. Children should be accompanied at all times Horses on site (Silver, Niels and Opal) - they are very friendly but can be boisterous Slippery steps in winter (front and back). A supply of salt grit will be available The wood burner has an extremely hot stove pipe. Do use the guard (stored behind the sofa) when small people and animals are around. Please don't attempt to dry things on or near the stove (or indeed on any of the electric radiators!)

Quiet Times

We are located in a friendly and welcoming community and, although this is a holiday destination, it's home to other people. As such we ask that you respect their privacy and their right to a peaceful existence! Specifically, between the hours of 10 PM and 8 AM noise should be kept to a minimum.

Breakages

We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything, please let us know immediately - if it's minor we usually won't charge. If it's a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) we would like to agree the cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later. Thank you!

Smoking Policy

This is a smoke-free home. Feel free to smoke or Vape outside the house but we would be grateful if you retained carefully extinguished cigarette butts and disposed of same in the bin

Pets

We welcome pets as per your booking, please respect these following simple requests to keep our home enjoyable for everybody

Please keep pets off the beds, furniture, and windowsills. If you think your pet is likely to ignore this when you are not looking (!), please bring adequate throws, blankets and sheets to cover up things. Please accept that you as the owner take responsibility for the additional cleaning and sweeping of the living areas that may result from your pet at the end of the stay i.e fouling, chewing and especially moulting.

Please do keep dogs on leads or under control when walking the public footpaths and fields. There are sheep and horses surrounding the property

If you wish to wash your dog, there is a hosepipe to use with an outside tap and a bucket in the utility meter cupboard.  Please do not wash your dog in the bath as this is acrylic and will scratch.

The dog waste goes in the bin and poo bags are provided for this purpose. Perhaps collect them up during your stay and deposit in the bin on departure (please don't bring into the house)

We're sorry but dogs must not be left alone in the property at any time

We work very hard to ensure our property is clean and tidy for your stay. Your co-operation will ensure we have enough time to prepare the cottage for the next guests, and that we can continue to accept dogs without an additional charge.
