About

Sedbergh 6.3 miles. Hawes 9 miles.

Roger Pot is a detached stone cottage set a quarter of a mile up a farm track in Garsdale, within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It sleeps six across three bedrooms and is well suited to families or groups of friends looking for somewhere quiet, with open countryside views and space to spread out.

The sitting room has exposed stone walls, wooden roof beams and a woodburning stove. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a separate dining room, plus a utility room with washer/dryer for dealing with muddy walking gear.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms: a double, a twin zip/link (which can be set up as a super-king on request) with a window seat, and a master bedroom with a super-king bed, wooden roof beams and an en-suite shower room. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over.

Outside, the enclosed garden has a table and chairs for eating outdoors. The property sits within 4 acres of land, and guests have access to a stretch of the river for paddling or fishing. This is also good territory for spotting red squirrels — one of England's last strongholds for reds — as well as roe deer, brown hares and a wide range of birds.

There are walks directly from the door — through the woodland by Dandra Garth, over the moors towards Dent, or up to the Pennine Bridleway. Grisedale, the neighbouring valley known as "The Dale That Died," is one of the most atmospheric walks in the area.

Sedbergh (6.3 miles) has shops, pubs and cafes, a weekly market on Wednesdays, and Farfield Mill arts centre on the road between Garsdale and town. Hawes (9 miles) has the Wensleydale Creamery, the Dales Countryside Museum, ropemakers, and a good range of eating and drinking options. See our things to do page for more, including waterfalls, castles, and family activities.

Garsdale Station on the Settle-Carlisle line is nearby — one of England's most scenic railways, with connections to Leeds and Carlisle.

Book direct through this site and you deal directly with the property owner — no agency fees, no booking commissions, and the personal service that comes from speaking to someone who knows the property and the area inside out. In these weather conditions, accessing the property, via three gates, up a long narrow track was not easy for my wife and I, in our eighties. The property itself was comfortable and well-equipped and the owners were both friendly and helpful. We would definitely consider a return visit in the Summer

Surrounded by stunning scenery. Both us & our two large hounds enjoyed the stay & the local walks. Lovely welcome pack on arrival……Beds were really comfortable. Paul & Karen were very welcoming & have a lot of knowledge of the local area. We will definitely be back.

We lacked nothing. The kitchen was fully equipped. It was very cozy. Karen and Paul provided us with homemade bread and scones, as well as tips for excursions in the area. We highly recommend this cottage. Nina, Christian, Lena, Tom, Jan, and Findus, the dog.

We have two dogs and they loved the space and Inclosed garden. The track going up the the property wasn't a problem and we have a very low sport's car. We can not recommend Paul and Karen's holiday home (Roger Pot's) enough. The views and location were amazing.

The best equipped house we've ever stayed at. Very generous welcome pack with all bakery and dairy essentials plus some. Ideal location for visiting both the Lakes and Dales. Scenery is amazing and circular dog walk through the woods and along the river was a great morning ritual. Would recommend.

The accommodation was excellent and provided a high level of comfort after long days sightseeing. The rooms were capacious and facilities more than adequate. The place was spotless and the bed linen of high quality. Paul and Karen were very helpful when required but not intrusive. The drive up to the house had been highlighted as an issue but in reality we didn’t find it dramatic. We would and possibly will return without hesitation.

The hosts were really helpful and even gave us some spices to my daughter's partner for cooking. We had a great family get away. The weather wasn't good but the property was the highlight!

Beautiful inside and out! We cannot recommend this property enough! we loved our stay here and were very lucky with the weather too. Be careful on the drive as if you have a very low car like low profile tires you may have a little issue as the centre is raised on road but we had no problems getting up in our estate car.

They made us feel very welcome when we arrived. The house was idyllic, it had everything we needed. We had 2 dogs which settled in very quickly and had a great garden to safely run around. The views are outstanding! Beds are very comfortable and everything is lovely and clean. People in the past have mentioned the lane …. I’m not a confident driver and I really didn’t find it a problem doing it on my own and the gates too. ! Lovely seeing the horses everyday and the sheep are hilarious. We will definitely be returning!

The pictures do not do the stunning property justice, it is the perfect blend of old cottage and new features. Everything you could want out of a stay, beautiful property set in a picturesque landscape! Loads of walks to do straight from your doorstep. The owners are beyond helpful, answering any and all questions we had. We were welcomed with fresh bread, scones, cheese and much more, the most well-equipped cottage I have ever stayed at. We had the perfect family break & can’t wait to come back. If you’re considering booking this property - do it!

It is warm and well-appointed, and Paul, who lives next door, was very helpful and friendly. We were there for New Year, and it had been decorated for Chrsitmas which was festive. The beds are very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water, even for a houseful. There is a wood burning stove which we lit every evening - Paul provided extra logs (at cost, after the first basket) and we bought kindling and firelighters. We were a group of 6 adults, 2 toddlers and two dogs and I had worried beforehand that it might feel a bit small. In fact it was fine - the dining table is extendable and we were able to have extra family who were staying nearby over for meals (although they did need to bring their own chairs!). There was one highchair available; we provided our own cots and stairgate. The utility room was ideal for the dogs; there are short walks from the property and lots of longer hikes a short drive away. There is a Spar 15 mins away in Sedbergh, but we took most of our food with us. There is a fairly steep track up to the cottage with three gates to open and close. It snowed whilst we were there and so on Paul's advice we left our cars on the road at the bottom and walked up, which was fine. We loved the seclusion and this was not an issue for us, but may not suit everyone. As many reviews have said, the welcome pack was exceptional, and all in all we had a wonderful time, thank you!

The welcome pack went above and beyond and the home made bread and parkin cake were unbelievably good, the addition of fresh flowers was also a lovely touch, hope to return in the near future, thanks for a lovely stay.

Warm welcome with the wood burner lit and an exceptional welcome pack. Cannot fault. We have an anxious mutt who is wary of large dogs and strangers but the hosts were understanding of this and ensured their (very friendly!) pooch was kept away from him. This made for a relaxing stay and for this we are grateful. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable-slept really well! Location great for exploring the Dales and Lake District. All in all we had a lovely week- thank you!

The house is just beautiful - very comfortable and every tiny detail has been thought out, from fresh flowers, food hamper and essentials in the fridge, to the most delicious home made Parkin made by Paul (he may have also made the Sourdough bread too which was just gorgeous). The underfloor heating downstairs was a real surprise as it was very cold and windy outside, so we were lovely and cosy and there was a constant supply of fuel for the burner too. The bedrooms are gorgeous and the bed linen was beautiful. Would also recommend a hot bath after a cold walk as it was fantastic! Paul and Karen were amazing hosts, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble, they're really lovely people. We'll definitely be back here and would highly recommend Roger Pot to anybody looking for a great getaway in a beautiful location. Thank you so much for such an amazing few days.

Cottage was lovely and was exactly what we were looking for. There was a beautiful welcome basked on arrival and the owner has already lit the fire so it was nice a toasty. The cottage has a real cosy feel about it and has all you need for your stay. Beds were really comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. Beautiful views from the cottage and some lovely walks. Due to the bad weather we didn’t really leave the cottage, but there was lots of games to keep us entertained (tv is only very small). Would definitely recommend this cottage.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Dec '23

We all felt at home as soon as we stepped through the door. Credit to the owners, who put real effort into decorating for Christmas and ensuring that we had everything we needed, including fuel for the fire. This house is beautiful. It has a warm, welcoming, cosy feeling to it with a truly huge view across the valley. We could not have asked for more. It might be worth mentioning that the house is accessed via a narrow steep track with quite a steep drop to the river on one side, so you need to be a confident driver to negotiate it (my other half wouldn’t drive whilst we were here)

Spectacular views from every window with lovely walks from the door. The elevated position gives amazing views of the surrounding valley. I would highly recommend a stay in Rodger pot cottage. Thank you Paul & Karen, don’t change a thing, it’s just perfect.

Clean and spacious, warm and comfortable. We stayed for a week and just loved it. Owners live nearby and they welcomed us. On arrival we found dining room and fridge set up with basics (milk, bread, eggs, cake). We also found that the bread and cake were homemade by the owners (really delicious). We enjoyed our stay very much.

We loved the seclusion and the fields at the back for our dog to run in. We used it as a base to visit both the Lake District (Kendal and Bowness) and the Yorkshire Moores (Malham Cove). The owner was very helpful when required. The house was very well equipped and the welcome pack was a real bonus with the loaf and ginger cake particular highlights. We would definitely stay again.

It was very well equipped and had absolutely everything we needed. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The property was clean and so comfortable to spend the whole day in, when the weather took a turn. Garsdale is well positioned for visits to the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales.

Set in a stunning location with views in three directions the house itself is beautifully kept combining the original features with a modern feel. The appliances are all high quality and to be honest Im not sure how it isn't rated 5 stars. The images really dont do the place full justice, especially the master bedroom which is very spacious with low windows offering the best view there is to have from the cottage. We must mention the welcome from the owners who had provided both fresh flowers and a hamper of basics and local food. Our only gripe would be the Sykes information on the site says there is a pub within a mile which is not the case. The nearest is nearly 5 miles along a country road with no footpath. This slight disappointment aside you really cant fault the property itself. Would thoroughly recommend this property both as a base to explore the dales and lakes or to just unwind in a beautiful, peaceful setting. As a bonus the kids (and adults) will love the sheep and two horses around the site.

Beautiful location, cottage was amazing and great facilities, home from home. A good selection of games to play when the weather wasn't great. Was a nice surprise to find a welcome pack when we arrived, with all the essentials, the homemade parkin was delicious. Would highly recommend, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, although would say very rural so a car is essential.
