Bainbridge Vets, Askrigg

Bainbridge Vets is a small veterinary practice based in Askrigg in Wensleydale, around fifteen minutes' drive from Garsdale over the A684. The practice is the closer of the two main local vets for guests staying in Garsdale with a dog, particularly in the eastern half of the dale, with Farm Gate Vets in Hawes the alternative on the Hawes side. Useful to have noted before travelling, since Garsdale itself has no vet or surgery, and the dale's remoteness means a short drive is unavoidable if a pet is taken ill during a stay. Speak to your cottage owner if you are unsure which to use - they will know the current arrangements.

Bainbridge Vets is a long-established Dales veterinary practice at Station Surgery in Askrigg, covering both farm and companion animals with a mixed, all-species service. It is a practice that values continuity of care - you can ring and request a specific vet, and they make themselves available on the phone to discuss cases before deciding whether an animal needs to come in. The Askrigg site has two spacious consulting rooms, hospitalisation, diagnostic imaging and operating facilities.

The practice runs its own 24-hour emergency service for genuine emergencies, so if you are bringing your dog on holiday and something goes wrong in the middle of the night, this is where you call. Note that the postal address says Leyburn, but the surgery is in Askrigg itself, about thirteen miles east of Leyburn on the A684 - follow the signs to Askrigg, not to Leyburn town centre. Askrigg is in Wensleydale, roughly forty minutes' drive from Garsdale.
