Bring your dog with you. All three of our self-catering holiday cottages in Garsdale are dog friendly, and the dale gives you tranquil woodland, riverside trails and rolling Dales countryside straight from the door. Garsdale is a quiet valley between Sedbergh and Hawes, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and it makes an ideal base for a walking holiday with your pet.
You get doorstep access to endless trail networks, cozy nights by the fire after a long hike, and peaceful surroundings where your dog is genuinely welcomed, not just tolerated.
At Garsdale Cottages we know that a true family holiday isn't complete without your dog, so all three of our pet-friendly properties take one well-behaved pet, and Roger Pot will take two. Roger Pot is a cozy, traditional holiday cottage in the middle of the dale, good for relaxing with your dog after a day exploring the valley. The Old Cart House is spacious and characterful self-catering accommodation with fantastic access to nearby fell and woodland paths. Farrier's Cottage sleeps six and has a utility room off the garden, which is where the mud stops when you come back in.

Garsdale is a paradise for dogs who love to explore. From gentle valley rambles to challenging fell hikes, you won't need to travel far to find good routes, and most of them start within a few minutes of the cottage doors.
The ground can be wet for a fair bit of the year, so bring a towel and something to dry a soaked dog with. This is sheep farming country, so dogs need to be on a lead anywhere near stock.

Take a scenic walk visiting Aysgill Force and Hardraw Force, both an easy drive from the dale.
Peaceful cobbled streets and riverside paths in neighbouring Dentdale - start at Dent village.

A cascade down the eastern flank of the Howgill Fells, one of the longest waterfalls in England, with the walk starting by the bridge at Cautley Spout.
After a day on the fells, relax at one of the many welcoming local spots where dogs are welcome inside, and often get a biscuit.
These are the dog friendly pubs and cafes we know of within easy reach of the dale, and what each of them does. Opening hours and food service times move about with the season up here, so it is worth ringing ahead if you are driving over specially.
Sedbergh, about six miles west and roughly fifteen minutes from the holiday cottages, has four of them. The Black Bull and the Red Lion both serve meals and drinks, the Thirsty Rambler does drinks, and the Half and Half does drinks with occasional food nights.
Hawes, nine miles east in upper Wensleydale, has the White Hart and the Board Inn for meals and drinks, with Caffè Curva on Market Place for daytime food.
Cautley, on the road out of Sedbergh towards Kirkby Stephen, has the Cross Keys temperance inn. It allows dogs into the lounge area but not into the tabled restaurant area, so ask for the lounge when you come in and you will be fine.
Hardraw, just outside Hawes, has the Green Dragon for meals and drinks, and Hardraw Force is reached through the pub grounds, which makes it an easy afternoon with the dog.
One nearby pub that is not dog friendly is The Dalesman Country Inn in Sedbergh, so plan around that one if you are bringing your dog.

For peace of mind during your holiday, local veterinary practices are within easy reach should you ever need them. Both are east of the dale in Wensleydale, one in Hawes and one further on at Askrigg, and it is worth putting the numbers in your phone before you set off on a walk.
