The Half and Half, Sedbergh

The Half and Half is a bar in Sedbergh, the nearest town to Garsdale, around six miles west down the A684. It runs a monthly acoustic night, open to musicians, singers and poets to attend and take part, along with a variety of other events and music nights across the year. It is a drinks place first, with occasional food nights, so plan to eat at the Black Bull or the Red Lion if you want a full meal. The Half and Half is one of the dog-friendly pub options in Sedbergh, along with the Black Bull, the Red Lion and the Thirsty Rambler, so it works well if you are bringing your dog, while the Dalesman in the same town is not dog-friendly and is best avoided in that case. Combine a visit with Sedbergh's Wednesday market, the artisan markets through the summer months, Farfield Mill on the road out towards Garsdale, and the bookshops, craft and gift shops on the high street.

The Half and Half is a bar on Main Street in Sedbergh, around fifteen minutes' drive from Garsdale, serving wines from around the world alongside local craft beers, gins and ciders from the Lakes and Dales. If you can't decide what to drink, they do a beer bat - a third each of three different ales - and wine flights, so you can taste before you commit. It is dog and family friendly with a welcoming log fire, a mini-library and free pool, and it has a steady programme of live music nights, DJ nights, pub quizzes and the occasional pop-up artisan pizza night in partnership with local kitchens, so it is livelier than your average Dales bar.

There is no parking on site, so park in town and walk to the door, which is the same advice as for the other Main Street pubs. It is a CAMRA-listed bar, and the acoustic night once a month is worth looking out for if you are staying the week.
