Westmorland General Hospital is in Kendal on Burton Road, about twenty-five minutes' drive from Garsdale, and it is the nearest hospital to the dale. It is the headquarters of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, and it provides a range of general hospital services including elective operations, outpatient appointments and midwifery-led maternity services. The key thing for visitors and holidaymakers to know is that it houses an Urgent Treatment Centre.
Use the Urgent Treatment Centre if you need urgent medical attention but it is not a life-threatening situation - things like strains, sprains, broken bones and minor illnesses. The UTC offers patient assessment and treatment for a wide range of non-life-threatening conditions, with the last appointment at 10pm. For anything life-threatening, go to the A&E at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary instead, which is further away but has a full Accident and Emergency Department.
