This high-level walk from Muker meanders past Crackpot Hall - a ruined farmhouse high above Swaledale with a dramatic setting on the valley side - and ends at an attractive waterfall in a little-visited pocket of the Yorkshire Dales. Swaledale is a lush green valley with a patchwork of tiny fields and barns, and it has never been one of the more popular tourist dales, which is part of its appeal.
The walk starts in Muker and follows the River Swale upstream, climbing to the ruins of Crackpot Hall before dropping to Swinner Gill and returning via the valley floor. The Muker - going east walk follows the same valley downstream, so the two can be combined or done separately. Muker is about 45 minutes' drive from Garsdale.
